Polish Cookbooks and Recipes Store - Polish Food
Polish food is good and hearty. The main ingredients are based on traditional plants that grow in Poland - rye, wheat, barley, potatoes. During the Renaissance, Italian Queen Bona changed Polish habits by introducing many vegetables from Italy. Therefore many vegetables have names that originate from Italian, like "tomato," which is called "pomidor" in Polish and "pomodoro" in Italian.
Polish food is adjusted for the cold climate, it is cheap but time consuming to prepare - like many sorts of dumplings. Many delicious dishes are meatless but Poles also love kielbasa. Very popular is a dish prepared from kielbasa (Polish sausage) and cabbage called bigos, especially in winter. Soups are also very popular. Check books with recipes below
